press release Chevron Honored with the Sustainable Business Award Indonesia 2018

Jakarta, Indonesia, January 8, 2019– Chevron Indonesia won the Sustainable Business Award Indonesia (SBA-I) 2018 in the land use and biodiversity category. Senior Vice President, PGPA, Wahyu Budiarto, received the prestigious recognition from Bambang Permadi Soemantri Brodjonegoro, Minister of National Development Planning, at the award ceremony at Hotel Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta.

Chevron was among the top five companies in land use and biodiversity category. The SBA-I judging panel determined that Chevron demonstrates good leadership in this category as it integrates biodiversity aspects into business decision-making and management through Operational Excellence Management System, which ensures key expectations and processes are assessed, including environmental, social and health impacts; risk management; and health, environment and safety.

"We are honored to receive this award alongside other reputable national and multinational companies. Our company’s values drive us to provide energy responsibly while protecting the environment and working with our partners to achieve sustainable development,” said Wahyu Budiarto.

In Indonesia and around the globe, Chevron conducts its business in a socially responsible and ethical manner, protects people and the environment, supports universal human rights, and benefits the communities. “Protecting people and the environment is our core value. Our goal is to be admired worldwide for excellence in this area. We recognize biodiversity conservation is an important environmental and social concern, and we accept the challenge and opportunity to show we can protect biodiversity while providing the energy resources the world needs. We are committed to demonstrate we can achieve those goals through our performance and partnerships,” explained Kevin Lyon, managing director IBU.

Competing for the awards with more than 50 respected national and multinational companies operating in Indonesia, Chevron Indonesia passed the pre-qualification process with a satisfactory rating. The Sustainable Business Award (SBA) uses a comprehensive framework which assesses business action across twelve categories, including strategy and sustainability management; workforce; community; energy management; water management; waste and material productivity; climate change; supply chain management; land use and biodiversity; business responsibility and ethics; stakeholder engagement and materiality; and UN Sustainable Development Goals.

"The awards validate and celebrate the companies which are leading the way in sustainable business and which have truly instilled this objective into their long-term business strategy. The awards also aim to inspire all businesses, large and small, to make sustainability the foundation of their corporate mission and brand,” Tony Gourlay, CEO, Global Initiatives.

Indonesia is one of six countries where the Sustainable Business Award (SBA) is held. The assessment framework was developed in collaboration with stakeholders as well as leading global experts and is fully consistent with international best practice. The award process involves assessment by Global Initiatives, PWC Consulting, and the National Advisory Panel.
