Pekanbaru, January 21, 2021 – Public awareness and proactiveness of the community are significant in reducing the spread of COVID-19. Realizing this condition, PT. Chevron Pacific Indonesia (PT CPI) encourages the empowerment of COVID-19 Alert Village Working Groups in three sub-districts in Pekanbaru and Bengkalis. This proactive step will support the government in increasing awareness and changing people's behavior towards healthier habits.

A total of 24 COVID-19 Alert Village Working Groups in Pekanbaru were established by Mayor Dr. H. Firdaus, ST., MT on Thursday (21/1). These working groups are representatives of several working groups in the Rumbai and Rumbai Pesisir sub-districts. Each working group consists of approximately 15 people representing various roles in society, such as community leaders, health cadres, heads of neighborhood, teachers, Family Welfare Development Community/PKK, and public order officers (Bhabinkamtibmas). In implementing the program, PT CPI cooperates with Yayasan Kemanusiaan Madani Indonesia (YKMI) as the implementing partner.

"All forms of prevention and control of COVID-19 are meaningful for our community. Let’s prevent the spread of COVID-19 together starting with the launch of COVID-19 Alert Village Working Group, "said Mayor Dr. H. Firdaus, ST., MT in his speech. The mayor also congratulated the entire COVID-19 Alert Village Working Group.

The event was also attended by Head of Pekanbaru Health Office Muhammad Noer, Head of Pekanbaru COVID-19 Task Force Zarman Candra, and Sumbagut SKK Migas Business Support First Specialist (Spesialis Pratama Dukungan Bisnis SKK Migas Sumbagut) Yanin Kholison.

In addition to the launching of district working group, PT CPI and YKMI also symbolically handed over 800 packages of hygiene kits and 20 units of portable hand washing facilities. Hygiene kits will be distributed to the community, each containing hand soaps, bath soaps, shampoos, masks, hand sanitizers, and towels. Meanwhile, portable handwashing facilities will be installed in various public facilities, such as urban village offices, sub-district offices, public health centers/puskesmas, schools, or houses of worship.

"Forming COVID-19 Alert Villages is part of our company's contribution to help build awareness and encourage community participation in preventing COVID-19 transmission. Let's protect ourselves, our families and the people around us”, said Sukamto Tamrin as GM Corporate Affairs Asset PT CPI. Apart from Pekanbaru, the empowerment of the COVID-19 Alert Village was also carried out in Mandau District, Bengkalis.

Working group members have been provided with knowledge to strengthen the 4M Movement campaign (Wearing Masks, Washing Hands, Keeping Distance, Avoiding Crowds) to the community in their respective urban village. Through the socialization of working groups, mutual concern and community participation are expected to grow in preventing the spread of COVID-19. "So far, we have been greatly supported by various parties, especially Pekanbaru Municipal Government, sub-districts, public health centers/puskesmas, village officials, and various other elements of society who are very cooperative," said Tatang Husaini as YKMI's Program Manager.

Empowerment of COVID-19 Alert Village is part of the Chevron Program for Healthy and Prosperous Riau (CHERISH) which is currently implemented by PT CPI. Two other main activities under the Cherish Program are Food Security and Construction of Clean Water Well. These programs are designed to support government programs in overcoming the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the pandemic, PT CPI is committed to donate the total of 11.6 million Rupiahs. In addition, SKK Migas – PT CPI distributed approximately 2,000 hazmat suits; 99,000 face masks; 6,000 bottles of hand sanitizers; 73 medical beds and mattresses; infrared thermometer; and 8,050 grocery packages. All assistance was given to Task Force in districts, cities and provinces levels.
