PT CPI’s partnership program with universities in riau
Pekanbaru, December 14, 2020 – The University Relationship Program (URP) is a program initiated by PT. Chevron Pacific Indonesia (PT CPI), which supports the increase of university students’ competence. This program relates to the link and match concept to increase the relevance of graduates’ competencies with the skills needed in the workplace. The series of eight webinars will continue until February 2021.
In November 2019, PT CPI partnered with Riau Muhammadiyah University to hold a national webinar series on ISO 17025:2017 implementation that educated participants in the competencies required for calibration and laboratory testing, then topics related to analytical techniques using advanced tools available in the PT CPI laboratory.
The first series topic was “Basic Competence of Chemists in the Oil and Gas Industry” with speaker PT CPI Laboratory and Production Chemistry Manager Dr. Maulana Hadi, M.Si. The event was virtually opened by Vice Rector I Umri Sri Fitria Retnawaty and PT CPI Operation and Maintenance Business Service Manager Endah Rumbiyanti.
The purpose of the webinar series was to increase participants’ ability to provide accurate and precise data results consistently while in the lab. The attendees were university students, academicians and practitioners from around Indonesia. In total, there were more than 575 attendees.
UMRI Mathematic, Natural Science Faculty (FMIPA), is one of the study programs that receives education aid from PT CPI through the URP program. Other than UMRI, there are three well-known universities in Riau that receive educational aid from URP, Riau University Technical Chemistry, Lancang Kuning University Technical Electro and Riau Islamic University Technical Petroleum.
The program, which has been running since 2010, aims to improve the quality of education and competence of lecturers and students to help increase accreditation of departments, including through guest lectures, seminars, field visits, journal publications, improvement of infrastructure quality and provision of laboratory and library equipment. All funding for this partnership program comes directly from Chevron Corporation.
“The primary goal of this program is to contribute to human resource development in Riau,” said Sonitha Poernomo, PT CPI Corporate Communication Manager. She continues, “Education is the key to independence and welfare for the community. A community development program must be able to create independence instead of dependence. We are confident and hope that our focus on this program will create ongoing positive outcomes for Riau residents.”
