press release For Safety Reason, PT. CPI Clears Out Area along Oil Pipelines

Pekanbaru, 15 November 2018 – PT. Chevron Pacific Indonesia (PT. CPI) will carry out maintenance and repair works on its oil pipelines in Bukit Kapur District, Dumai. ''Based on the latest inspection and review by internal technical team, we have identified a number of locations which require immediate maintenance and repair. This proactive action is primarily aimed at minimizing risks to public safety and protecting the environment around oil and gas pipelines,” said Wahyu Budiarto, SVP Policy, Government, and Public Affairs (PGPA) PT. CPI.

PT. CPI has communicated the activity with the squatters and coordinated with relevant stakeholders prior to clearing any semi-permanent huts or plant crops nearby. The work must be done to minimize any risks associated with community safety. After Dumai, the maintenance and repair works will be continued to other locations along the oil pipelines.

Currently, there are semi-permanent huts and crossing roads which were made by burying pipelines without considering safety and technical aspects. ’’If the pipelines are constantly run over by vehicles, this is very risky for the community and the surrounding environment,” explained Budi, nickname of Wahyu Budiarto. In several incidents, the oil pipeline was torn after being crushed or hit by a heavy vehicle.

The presence and smoothness of oil and gas operations contribute to the region’s revenues through oil and gas production sharing fund. The synergy between PT. CPI, local government, and community is expected to increase upstream oil and gas investment and keep the business climate positive.

PT. CPI is a Production Sharing Contract Contractor (PSC Contractor) of the Government of Indonesia that manages Rokan Block in Riau. In operating the oil and gas blocks in Indonesia, Chevron is working under supervision of SKK Migas. With the ingenuity and commitment of highly skilled and dedicated employees, Chevron Indonesia leads as one of Indonesia's largest producers of crude oil to meet the energy needs of Indonesia's growing economy.
